Information from Rangoon regarding the raid of Chinese across the San border, show’s that brigands, numbering about 500, and Ihd by Prince Wunthu, a member of the former Burmese Royal House, attacked and burned on the 20th, houses belonging to an American, press representative, the Baptist missionary and Dr. Harper at Namkhan. After sacking the village of Muse and murdering the villagers, Wunthu, who escaped from Burma across the .’border in 1892, proclaimed himself King of Bhamo, and said he had come to annex Burma for the British. Dr. Harper sent information to the military police, whereof a detachment was sent to Namkhan to protect the missionaries. The rebels were engaged on the 23rd at Nampaw river, and dispersed after fierce fighting, wherein they lost eighty killed. Prince Wunthu was captured by the military police. He had three killed. Captain Anderson was wounded.
