SEQUEL TO FIRES.
A CHARGE OF ARSON. By Telegraph.—Press Association Dannevirke, March 31. In the Magistrate’s Court at Ormondville yesterday a middle-aged man named Bertram Alexander Hegh, was proceeded against on four separate charges arising out of fires in the township on February 23, when Dillon’s store was burned down, the library set on fire and various incipient outbreaks extinguished. Hegh was blamed as the author of the fires and in a confession to £ie police accused admitted setting fire to Dillon’s store, but could give no reason for his act, except that he had had a great deal of liquor. He pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial at Napier. Bail was allowed in self £2OO and two sureties of £2OO each.
