OPUNAKE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) News was received on Tuesday of the death of Frederick Hobdill Boardman. second son of the late F. IT. Boardman (Oaonui). Deceased, who was a returned soldier, suffered a severe illness, and was an inmate of, the New Plymouth hospital for some time, and about a fortnight ago entered the Trentham hospital. The deceased (who was 29 years of age) was a member of the Opunake Oddfellows Lodge, and will be accorded a funeral under the Lodge ritual to-day. On Saturday morning a rink from the Hawera Bowling Club met and defeated the Opuuake club by 95 points to 64. The Kaponga- Tenuis Club played Opunake at Opunake on Saturday. The visitors won by 128 points to 97. The Presbyterian Harvest Sale on Monday resulted in a net M lance of over £3O. Mr. Trotter (of the Farmers’ Co-op.) elicited spirited bidding. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded him on the motion of Mr. Crow. Mr. Trotter remarked that he was pleased to assist any denomination in a similar capacity. The senior inspector of schools under the Taranaki Education Board, addressed a meeting of teachers at the Opunake school on Saturday afternoon on the method of teaching primer classes and the training of the minds of the juveniles. A teachers’ association was formed, Mr. Crow being elected president, Miss R. O’Brien vice-president, Miss McLean secretary. The following is the executive committee: Misses Orr and Frethey, Mrs. Evans. Messrs. Evetts and Mason.
