Touching the length of his service Mr. Jordan said he joined the Department on December 18, | 1884. Some of his first experiences iwere connected with the Ohinemuri and ' Thames goldfields in the midst of the , great boom. Horseback was the only means of communication from one end ■ of the district to the other and buggy roads were unknown. They were really hard times, but youth was very , strong and hearty and he enjoyed the experiences, even when the horses floundered to their girths in mud. In New Plymouth he had had a very pleasant time and had a great feeling of kindness towards every member ®f the Bar. He had always received courtesy from them, and ready advice as asked -for. Mr. Jordan is to take up residence at Tauranga.
