SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
WAVERLEY CLUB'S MEETING. The sixth annual trials of the WaverleyWaitotara Sheep Dog Trial Club •were held on tlie Moumahaki State Farm on Tuesday and Wednesday. The number of competitors was good, ti:e full two days being- required in wliich to decide the three classes in the programme, and the people of the district gave generous support. The fine weather experienced on did not extend to the second day, which was somewhat showery. The meeting was conducted in an excellent manner, there being a capable set of officials, headed by Mr. P. M. Harrison as hon. secretary. Details of the trials are as follow: CLASS I.—Head, pull, and hold in ring. Points: Heading 18, pulling 16, holding 4, comunand 12; total 50. M. M. Scott’s Swift: 16. 15, 4, 10*; total 45 1 H. Buckley’s Hemp: 17, 13, 3,9; 42 .... 2 P. H. Tooker's Jgd: 15, 13, 3,9; 40 .... 8 The judge (Mr. A. T. Hunter) commented as follows: Swift.—Cast to left; ran out well, a little wide, but headed well; pulled in a straight line In good style; held excellently in the ring. Hemp.—Cast to left; went out on a fair line in good time; zig-zagged a little and at times was slightly rash in pulling; work at ring fairly good. Jed.—Went out on not very good line, but finished head well; pulled In rair line and rather fast; fair work at ring. CLASS II. —Head, pull, drive and yard. Points: Heading 11, pulling 10, drive 8, hurdles 3, style at yard 10, yarding 6, command 12; total 60. E. Leahy’s Shark: 10, 8,6, 3, 10. 6, 11; 54 1 G Paddison’3 Tops: 10, 6,8, 3,9, 6, 10; 52 2 H. Buckley’s Flip: », 6,5, 3,7, 6,8; 44 3 Spark.—Cast to left; ran fast and well and finished head well; pulled a little out of line; driving fair, through hurdles, and’ yarded in good style; dog under good comunand. An excellent performance. Toss.—Cast to left and ran out well on a good line; somewhat rash in pulling; missed peg; then drove very well and went through hurdles and. yarded in good style. Flip.—Cast to left; ran out fair and pulled rashly; driving through hurdles and work at yard were fair. CLASS lll.—Huntaway. Points: Huntaway 18, noise 9, style 6, command 12; total G. Paddison’s Kept: 16, 9,4, 11; 40 —. 1 H. R. Scott’s Tip: 16, 9,3, 11 ; 39 9 A. Walker’s Boy: 13, 8,5, 11;.37 3 Kept.—Had a. little trouble at the start; then through all three sets of flags on fair line. Style fair. Tip.—Had a little trouble at the start, then through flags on fair line; plenty of noise. Boy.—Had a lot of trouble at the start; then got through flags an good line: very , good style until near top flags, where he became a bit slack.
