MT. EVEREST.

START OF NEW EFFORT. STRONG PARTY’S ASSAULT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, March 29. General Bruce, leader of the Mount Everest expedition, telegraphing from Darjeeling, states that the entire party of twelve is expected to leave for Tibet on the 26th. The expedition is thus considerably stronger than in 1921. A stronger party of British mountaineeres has never before participated in exploration, yet success depends on the transport. The hillmen responded splendidly to the call for porters. They underwent severe hardships in 1921 and are yet keenly competing for inclusion. Owing to the size of the party and the proved magnitudee of the undertaking, the outfit is far heavier than in 1921. It is hoped the whole expedition assemble at Pharidzong on April 6, ready to enter Tibet. Though the Western Himalayas have now probably ten feet of snow on them, practically preventing transport before the beginning of May, the road to Tibet over this part of the Western Himalayas and across to Jelapla lies open to animal transport the whole of the winter. Many mules bring wool from Tibet to Bengal early in the spring, returning comparatively loadless. Thus the expedition will be able to engage empty mules.
