ETNA ERUPTION.
A VIOLENT DISTURBANCE. VILLAGERS FLEEING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rome, March 29. Mount Etna is in violent eruption, *and lava is flowing from all sides of the crater. The villagers are fleeing. There have been several earthquakes in the Palermo and Messina districts lately. [Mount Etna (11,870 feet) has frequently been in eruption from the earliest times. Thucydides speaks of eruptions in. 734, 477, and 425 8.C., and Livy describes those occurring in 125, 121, and 43 B.C. In 1669 tens of thou-* sands of people perished in the streams of lava which rolled over the country for 40 days. In recent years there have been * outbreaks every four or five years.]
