SECTARIAN STRIFE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your correspondent, “An Old Colonial,” strikes a popular note when he pleads for “peace and goodwill,” but is he going the right way to get it? It is refreshing to find that as an old Catholic he does not approve of the words attributed to the reverend gentleman at Auckland. Is “Old Colonial” pouring oil upon the troubled waters by attacking the Rev. Howard Elliott? I hold that he is not, and that it would foe better for both sides to forgive and forget. It will indeed be a sorry day when this small democracy allows itself to be swayed by any small body of extremists or society of men, and what is really wanted is level-headed, broadminded men of sound judgment and strict morals to guide us in all our efforts to work out our own destiny. Allow me, in conclusion, to express the hope that we, as brethren, may dwell together in harmony as we have done during the past decade in so far as New Zealand is concerned. —I am, etc., ANGLICAN.
