ADDRESS TO TEACHERS.
Mr. J. A. Valentine, M.A., inspector of schools for Taranaki, addressed the teachers of Opunake and surrounding districts at Opunake on Saturday, March 25. Mr. O. J. Howarth, organising teacher for Taranaki, briefly introduced the lecturer, and there was a large attendance. Mr. Valentine’s remarks, which were most inspirational, were based oh the new and attractive methods of infant room teaching, the old stereotyped system having become pre-historic. On the motion of Mr. Lyall, seconded by Mr. Mason, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Valentine. Mr. Howarth exhibited some witeresving experiments for the attractive presentation of primer work. Later a number of teachers again assembled for the purpose of forming a teachers’ association. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. Cron; secretary, Miss McLean; vice-pre-sident, Miss O’Brien; executive, Misses Orr and Freithy, Mrs. Evans, Messrs. Evetts and Mason.
