TEX RICKARD’S TRIAL.

The Rickard case went to the jury, following upon a long and hard-fought trial, in which Rickard attempted to establish an alibi concerning the date on winch the girl mentioned when she was assaulted.. The defence showed that a supporting witness for the prosecution—namely, a little girl friend of complainant —had, upon several occasions, committed forgery and other crimes. Rickard’s attorney declared that Rickard was the victim of Wall Street blackmail, and would devote the remainder of his life to run down the guilty ones. AN ACQUITTAL. OTHER CHARGES PENDING. Received March 29, 8.50 p.m. New York, March 29. Rickard was acquitted. There are several other indictments outstanding against him, charging him with the abduction of other girls. It is not known whether these will be quashed. Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Tex Rickard was charged with having mistreated a fifteen-year-old girl, who, when giving evidence in January last, stuck to her story, though she admitted that she lied several times in accusing other men similarly on previous occasions. Rickard’s counsel then said: “I believe there will be no difficulty in proving that the girl is lying in this case also.”
