STATE AID FOR ’VARSITIES. London, March 24. The Royal Commission on Oxford and Cambridge Universities, appointed in 1919 to consider the application of the universities for State financial assistance, has issued a report recommending that each university receive, instead of thfe existing interim grant of £30,000, an annual grant of £lOO,OOO, with an additional £lO,OOO for special purposes, embracing women’s education, extra mural work, also a lump sum for pension arrears. AMERICAN WOOL TARIFF. Washington, March 24. The Finance Committee of the Senate agreed on the wool schedule in the Permanent Tariff Bill. The 35 per cent, ad valorem limitation was cancelled and the 25 per cent, clean content rate increased to 33 cents per lb. Wool which has advanced in any manner or by any process of manufacture beyond the washed or scoured condition, and valued at not more than 30 cents per lb, is tariffed at 21 cents specific and 25 cents ad valorem. Woo! valued at over 30 cents per lb is tariffed at 36 cents specific and 25 per cent, ad valorem.
