A JERSEY APPOINTMENT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice in your columns that Mi. Tapp, secretary of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, has been selected to judge the Jerseys at the Sydney Royal Show next month. As this show is looked upon as the greatest south 'of the line, Jersey breeders are all interested in Mr. Tapp’s appointment. Almost all are, to put it mildly, disappointed, and wonder if the New Zealand Jersey Council are responsible for the appointment. Taranaki hold annually at New Plymouth, Hawera, and Stratford, three of the largest Jersey show’s in the Dominion, and such is the opinion of Mr. Tapp as a judge that he has not officiated at any of these shows for many years. On the other hand, we have in Mr. H. E. B. Watson (the Jersey Association official demonstrator) a man who is unanimously declared to be the premier Jersey judge of the Dominion, one who could hold his own as . a judge in any part of tlie world. If he were appointed to judge at Sydney his knowledge and ability as a judge, together with his cheery and versatile manner, would bring credit to the Jersey interests of the Dominion. There is little wonder that breeders are sore that such a chance has been missed. Who is to blame? Is it the Jersey Council, or whom?.—l am, etc.,' JERSEY BREEDER. [Mr. Griffiths, vice-president of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders’ Association, informs us that the Council had nothing to do with Mr. Tapp's appointment. He applied fo: and was granted leave of absence by the Council to attend and judge at the show. His appointment apparently came direct from Sydney.—Ed.]
