THE NEAR EAST.
THE PROBLEM OF TURKEY, Paris. March 22. The Near Eastern Conference has opened at Quai d’Orsay. Broadly speaking, the French desire a remodelling of the Sevres Treaty, the withdrawal of the Greeks from’ Asia Minor, and the restoration of sufficient territory in Thrace to enable Turkey properly to protect Constantinople. France also regards- the Angora Government as more representative of real Turkish aspirations than the Government at Constantinople, The British view inclines in favor of the Greeks, who desire to ..have the Boilion Treaty repudiated. In view of M. Poincare’s adverse criticism of 11. treaty last year, he may agree to some modification. z The conference has decided to propose a suspension of all hostilities between Greece and the Angora Government for three months, the forces to be immediately withdrawn and the movement of reinforcements stopped, GREEKS FAVOR ARMISTICE.
