THE Proper Feeding of Dairy Cows. THE GREAT MANURIAL VALUE OF LINSEED OILCAKE, I N addition to its food value to t ' ie an i ma b the manorial value VT'aWwfeWfcx is of more importance to profitable farming than many farmers appreciate. Whatever is sold from ’the farm, in the form of milk or other product, removes a definite Amount of fertility from the soil, and unless this is restored in some r way, the land becomes less produetive from year to year, While the nitrogen from the air can be made to help replenish the fertility by proper methods of culture and rotation of crops, the use of fertilisers of some sort is needed to produce best results, and the manurial value of feeding stutfs should be given great consideration by the farmer in selecting feed for his stock. Linseed is one of the very best feeds available in regard to manurial value, and quite 25 per cent of its cost is returned in the improvement to the pasture, especially where the pasture is gone over regularly with the chain or tripod harrows. A striking example of this has been given in the Waikato, where a farmer fed his cows on “Moose” Nuts last winter, and he had rich green pasture six weeks ahead of any of his neighbours. He goes over his paddocks with the tripod harrows regularly every month. The world-famed pastures of Great Britain owe their origin largely to the liberal feeding of Linseed Oilcake to stock grazed on them. Write for Pamphlet, “The Proper Feeding of Liv® vb Stock.” N.Z.
