GRANT FOR NEW SCHOOL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, March 24. The secretary of the Longburn School Committee was advised by the Minister of Education that Cabinet had granted £2248 for the erection of a new school. The work will be proceeded with immediately. MILK VENDORS FINED. Wellington, March 24. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Ellen De Sonza was fined £25 for selling adulterated milk and 40s for keeping milk in a dirty can. The magistrate said it was as bad a case as he had had and fines seemed to do no good at all. Paul Olsen was fined 60s for keeping milk in an unclean vessel. WU.T.U. CONVENTION. Hamilton, March 24. The W.C.T.U. Convention was welcomed last night by th* Deputy-Mayor, and the member of Parliament for the Waikato, the council of the Free Churches, and Mrs. Blamires, president of the local branch of the W.C.T.U/ This morning over one hundred delegates answered the roll call, and the secretary’s report showed that 16 new unions had been formed during the year. The membership was now about 6000. Hamilton, Last Night. The treasurer’s report showed a substantial balance of all funds. The report referred to the splendid result of prison work as given by Adjutant Gordon, the probation officer. • CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. Blenheim, March 23. John Emlyn Thomas wajfe charged in the Supreme Court with manslaughter, the alleged negligent driving of a motor car by accused having been responsible for the death of Rose Stafford, 24 years of age, in September. It was alleged that accused was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. The jury after a retirement of about five hours returned a verdict of not guilty.
