GOLF.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. LADIES’ COMMITTEE ELECTED. The adjourned annual meeting of the New Plymouth Golf Club was held last night, Mr. W. C. Weston (club captain) presiding over a moderate attendance. The chief business of the meeting was the election of a ladies’ committee. THE PAST SEASON. A report on the 1921 season was presented behalf of the ladies’ committee by Miss E. H. Rundle (captain). The report stated: The season was a very successful one, and the membership increased considerably, there being 91 playing members at the close of the season. The Taranaki ladies’ championship and handicap tournament was held at the beginning of June and was quite a success. Miss Gavin was successful in winning the first open championship. The committee’s thanks are due to Mesys. Butcher, Dempsey and Paton for their willing and able assistance, and also to Colonel Weston for presenting the trophies. Now that a start has been made with a Taranaki ladies’ championship tournament tte committee would like to see it made an annual affair, and would make a recommendation to the committee to hold it towards the end Of the season, and this year shortly before the New Zealand ladies’ championship meeting, which is to take place at WangaThe club championship was won by Miss Brewster, and Miss L. Thomson won the Brewster Chip. Very satisfactory entries were received for the weekly competitions, and the committee wish to thank all those ladies who donated trophies, and also the men’s committee for a donation. During the season teams visited Hawera and Inglewood, both matches ending in a. draw. Hawera and Inglewood returned the Visits, and Stratford also paid us a visit, the home team on each occasion winning by a good margin. Misses Brewster and Gavin were competitors at the New Zealand ladies’ golf championship meeting, and were appointed the club's delegates to the annual meeting of the Ladies’ Golf Union. Mrs. Johns wAs again elected the vice-president for Taranaki. The club was fortunate in having the services of Mr. McKenzie for two months,' and a great number of players ' availed themselves of the opportunity of taking lessons. Tte committee's thanks are due to Dr Waae for having the greens in order on -match days, to Mr. Johns for making the necessary arrangements for the closing day competitions, and to the Press. GENERAL. Officers for the ensuing season were elected as follows: Captain, Mrs. C. H. Weston; secretary, Miss Simpson; committee. Misses Rundle, Brewster, Gavin, Bremer, and Thompson. The match committee raised the question of mixed foursomes, it being suggested that the practice of drawing for partners be adopted. The chairman said that as the opinion seemed to be unanimous, the committee could try the scheme, and he remarked that It was in vogue in the earlier days of the club. The executive was recommended to allow the ladies’ committee a small fund with which to manage their own affairs, the basis of the fund to be a rebate from subscriptions paid by lady members. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers
