NEW PLYMOUTH.

ATTRACTIONS AND EXPANSION. New Plymouth, which has always been noted for its attractions, has now assumed further prominence by reason of its remarkable expansion. No town in New Zealand (the census discloses) has grown with the rapidity of New Plymouth, which tops the list, for percentage increase. It is appropriate, therefore, at this time when the town is turning the comer to even greater development to find in circulation an attractive and interesting booklet extolling New Plymouth, and this enterprise is further evidence of the activity of the Tourist and Expansion League. The booklet is of unusual interest. It is not a mere chronicle of “where to go and where to stay,” but, commencing with an article on the early settlement of the town it proceeds through many pages rich in beautiful illustrations to tell of the growth of the town, its richness in places of beauty and historical interest, its wonderful seaside, its rivers, parks, etc. Pukekura Park—more wonderful every year—is known far afield, but the many other and beautiful private grounds provide a wide range of attractions.) An excellent article on Mount Egmont, with some fine illustrations, is a feature of the booklet, whilst the rare picturesqueness of the Mokau is another subject dealt with. The splendid municipal services—trams, electric light, etc. —are dealt with, while considerable space is devoted to the story of the growth of the town, the wonderful development of the port, the possibilities of hydro-electric power. Sports and pastimes which help to make New Plymouth attractive are provided at New Plymouth by unique facilities and much matter of interest to visitors is published. Particular value is given to the booklet by a collection of interesting statistics.
