PACIFIC TREATY.
DEBATE IN SENATE. ADVERSE CRITICISM ASSOCIATION OF NATIONS SCHEME. By Telegraph.—Press Assn-—Copyright. Received March 23, 9.5 p.m. Washington, March 22. The debate on the Pacific Treaty was continued to-day in the Senate, speeches being limited to one hour, in order to reach a vote on Friday. Senator Walsh declared that he would vote against the Treaty, because it did not include all the possible parties to a dispute, hence it was not judicial in its alliance, which would result in the creation of other alliances to counteract it. It alienates friendly Powers like Russia and China, extends American protection* which parties are apt to need in return for the protection which America should furnish herself.
Senator Pomerance expressed disappointment that further progress had not been made towards forming an Association of Nations, which President Harding promised. He would support the Treaty.
