RAID BY WOLVES.
' - FIGHT WITH VILLAGERS. A TERRIBLE STRUGGLE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London. March 22. Messages from Bucharest say that, mad with hunger after pitiless snow storms, a pack of wolves entered the village of Pietrosin at nightfall *and carried off five small children, whom they tore ravenously to pieces before their parents* eyes. Responding to the frantic alarm raised by the horror-stricken mothers, the entire village turned out armed with sticks and chased the invaders. They found the pack reinforced by a large number of famished wolves. The animals turned on the villagers, who, without firearms, were compelled to fight for their lives. The fierce struggle lasted an hour. Only one wolf was killed and six villagers were so badly torn by their fangs that they died on the spot. Thirty-eight others were badly bitten.
