NOTES ON THE RACING. (By Special Reporter.) Bulls, Last Nignt. After the rain in the morning the weather cleared for the opening day or the Rangitikei races. The track was holding, but improved during the afternoon. The Taranaki horses Egmont Park, Voluble and Passin’ Through won races, and Kareao, Miss Beaufort, Naughty, Skylight, and Velociform all gained place money. Amber Tips, Festive and Kuia were withdrawn from the Scott Memorial Handicap, leaving a good field of .line. Passionless, Cold Steel, Voluble and Lady Kotiropo had most admirers. From a good start Lady Kotiropo led a bunched crowd. Bestir took the lead three furlongs from home, and led Lady Kotiropo, Kareao and Voluble into the straight. Voluble challenged Bestir a hundred yards from home, and though carried out wide, won nicely, Kareao being a close third and Cold Stee» fourth. Voluble’s effort was a fine one, the Hawera horse being second to last three furlongs from home. Cold Steel could not act in the sticky going. Passionless received a bad passage. Bonny Rill, Pam and Legato were the only scratchings in the Trial Plate, leaving seventeen runners, Eonmark being voted a certainty. Another good start saw Eonmark away first, followed by Released. The latter took the lead after three furlongs and led into the straight. Atapo came through at the distance and just beat Released, with Miss Beaufort, Haeremoana arid Adrina next.

The scratchings reduced the field for the Hack Hurdles to four. War Loan being a strong order. Naughty ana Tornea led past the stand, being well clear of War Loan. Tarquin tailed off and Naughty cleared right out going, along the back, but her rider wenjt to sleep and War Loan dashed up at the half distance and won cleverly, the others being distanced. Beloved was the onry absentee from the Cup, Egmont Park being backed as if it was all over. La Paloma and Equitable led Egmont Park, Pantier and Skylight passing the stand, and this order remained the same until four furlongs from home, where Egmont Park slipped up on the rails and took the lead. The favorite led into the straight and threw’ off a challenge by Equitable, and went on to win easily from Skylight. who finished fast and just cut Equitable out of second money. La. Paloma, Prince Martian ana Pantier finished next.

Lady Nassau and Matareka dropped 'out of the Carnarvon Handicap, Hallowroz having an army of followers. All moved off in line, Pam being on the rails, having Bonecto and Stutter alongside. When they settled dow'n Bonecto beaded Pam before turning for home, but went under to Hallowroz, who finished best. Pam being a close third and Satin fourth.

Hallowroz, Country Life and Will Prosper dropped out of the Clifton Welter. Left and Velociform had most followers. MdrtuUa, on the rails, led off from Hindi and March On. The field bunched at the home bend, where Left, Temaire and Velociform drew up. A great race home saw Temaire beat Velociform by a neck, with Left and Skylight next. Only three lined up for the Parew’anui Welter, which was considers an exercise gallop for Passin’ Through. Detroit broke the line and had several lengths lead of /Tirana and Passin' Through along the back. Passin’ Through headed Detroit turning for home, and won very easily. Matareka, Jasper Gate, lola and Golden Foam had the pen put through their names in the Ngatiapa Hack. Handicap, leaving eleven runners, including the popular favorite Some Red. Paphian led for two furlongs, where Some Red went to the front and won very easily from Regard, Gallia being a fair third and Paphian fourth.
