CARGO PILLAGING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, March 20. A wharf laborer, Leonard George Carter Huston, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment for pillaging cargo from the steamer Ripple. FINES FOR PAKAPOO. Wellington, March 20. Two Chinese were each fined £lOO or three months’ imprisonment by Mr. Hunt, S.M., for keeping common gaming houses. Accused did a large pakapoo business, mostly with Europeans, conducting as many as 20 banks daily. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Auckland, March 20. Thomas Doolan, 36, was committed for sentence on two charges of obtaining £5O by false pretences. The money was lent on the representations of accused that he had funds in the bank.

Catherine Angus, 33, admitted a bigamous marriage. The evidence showed that ae?u*ed was married at Petone in December, 1909, and recently went through a form of marriage at Whangarei, stating she was a widow. In a statement made by accused she said her husband deserted her and went to the war, and, as she heard nothing of him, she presumed he was dead. After remarriage she left her second husband and then met Angus, who said it was his fault that she believed him dead, for he had changed his name. Accused was committed for sentence. HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER. Dannevirke, March 21. The Power Board decided to be represented at the proposed conference of the Rangitikei, Dannevirke and Horowhenua Electric Power Boards with a view to raising a joint loan on the London market and arranging for a deputation to the Minister of Public Works asking for Government backing for the combined loan. It was also decided to suggest to the convenors of the Manawatu-Oroua Board that Wanganui, Wairarapa and any other boards directly interested be invited to the conference.
