”EW PLYMOUTH CLUB. € ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Golf Club was held last night. Mr. T. P. Anderson (club captain) presided over an attendance of about thirty-five. The balance-sheet was presented by the secretary (Mr. J. Austin) and the report (already published) was read by the chairman. In moving its adoption Mr. Anderson welcomed members who had attended in spite of the very inclement weather, and he took this as an indication of their enthusiasm. Touching on the work of the year, he remarked that some of the members had kindly donated to the club the interest accruing on debentures. Some amendments as regards the rules of golf had been made, and copies of the rules were available to members on payment of the fee of sixpence. The motion was seconded by Mr. W. H. Robertshaw. Speaking on the report, Mr. W. C. Weston said the committee were to be congratulated on the successful balancesheet presented. He commented on the fact that a large amount of money had been collected during the year. The balance-sheet was adopted. The chairman explained the -fact that on appearances the club showed a debit balance of £B5, whereas last year there was a credit balance of £175. He said this was due to the fact that there had been a considerable pruning down of assets, which was probably a wise precaution. Actually, as stated in the report, the club was about £3OO better off. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: — President, Dr. Walker; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Paton, C. H. Weston, and Dr. Home; captain, Mr. W. C. Weston; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Austin; auditor, Mr. V. Elliott; committee, Dr. Wade, Messrs. J. E. Avery, T. Thomson, R. T. McQuade, S. The meeting endorsed this view by making the fee for country members £1 Is instead of £l2 2s, as previously. MEMBERS’ SUGGESTIONS. Mr. T. U. Mackay suggested that the holes in the course be named, as in other clubs, and urged that this was a help in learning the geography of the course. Butcher suggested the committee might do something to put a little more vim into the competitions. He also advocated that two classes ' should be made for the men players. In the course of further discussion a suggestion was made that the"MM>mmittee should see that all divots Are replaced. It was also stated that members should become acquainted with the new rules. Mr. Robertshaw said the committee should consider the matter of securing a professional coach as early as possible in the season, and pointed out the benefit derived from a similar step last year. On the motion of Mr. Butcher the committee was recommended to endeavor to secure the New Zealand championships in 1923- for New Plymouth. In supporting this, Mr. Johns said the course was not far behind the best in New Zealand, and he thought it was worthy of a championship meeting. MISCELLANEOUS.
