FARM AND DAIRY.

MANAWATU’S RECORD DAIRYING OUTPUT. Now that the dairying season is drawing to a close it is quite evident that the output for the year will be a record one, says the Palmerston North correspondent of the Dominion. All the factories announce increased supplies of milk, and it is quite on the cards that the extra supply will more than make up for lower prices for the finished products. The season opened well and kept right to December, when the peak was reached. The decline for the last couple of months has been more gradual than is generally the case, and fair supplies are still going to the factories. The National Dairies Association, which is the biggest concern in this district, put out over 452 tons of butter for December, as against 310 tons for the corresponding month of the previous year, an increase of about 30 per cent., while their output to- the present is nearly 5 per cent, more than was the case at the same period of last year. It is said that a considerable factor in the increased supply has been' the severe culling to which most of the herds have been subjected and the more scientific manner in which the tows have been fed.

Wllairy factories in this district are oeiginning to pay out on account of butterfat supplied during February. The Mangatsvhata Factory, which sold its output at the commencement of the season, has been in a position to pay out an advance of Js 9d per lb of butter-fat. The New Zealand Farmers’ Dairy Union is paying out lid per lb for fat for butter. The Tiakiahuna Factory, which has devoted itself to the manufacture of cheese, is paying lid advance, which is l£d more than was paid out in January.
