THE QUALITY PERFORMERS.

AN ARTISTIC WHIRL OF GAIETIES.

The “Quality Performers” came to New Plymouth with a great reputation as entertainers, and that they have more than maintained that reputation those who have had the pleasure of seeing and hearing them at the Empire Theatre on Saturday and Monday can readily vouch. With their first performance;, here they jumped right into popularity. This was shown by the second bookings yesterday, over 300 seate being reserved, and the wisdom of this became apparent long before the performance opened, crowds being turned away. They certainly enhanced their reputation last night, when they gave a complete change of programme, very aptly entitled “An Artistic Whirl of Gaieties.’’ By sheer merit every item appealed to the audience, and the members of the company, who are equally at home in grave and gay numbers, light sparkling comedy, operatic gems, or humorous song and story, had all to respond to enthusiastic recalls, in many cases on three or more occasions, and even then the audience asked for more. The various scenas which included a cabaret scena, and an Eastern scena, and an operatic scena from Cavalliera Rusticana, were splendidly portrayed, the scenery and lighting effects being exceedingly picturesque, whilst the solo and concerted singing was delightful. Where all were so good it is invidious to particularise, but it is safe to say that the most popular member of the company is Leonard Nelson, the inimitable comedian, whose stories and characterisations proved irresistible. Misses Hazel Fuller and Rose Fitzgerald again delighted the audience with their singing, as did Annette Lange in her character and national dances. Mr. Aneurin Morris tad to respond to a double encore, whilst the audience could not have too much of Geo. Sharratt’s characterisations and Harry Webster’s comedy and eccentric dancing. The various comedy interludes, ensembles and humorous scenac particularly the comedy scene, “The Drapery Store” and “The Musical Waiter,” all added further to the laurels earned by the mambers of the company. The jazz band again delighted the audience, as did the orchestra throughout the performance, it being of outstanding merit. The “Quality formers” will make their final appearance Plymouth to-night, when a du proCTamxo will be
