NEWTON KING’S REPORT. At Ohura, on March 9, a good entry of sheep and moderate one of cattle came forward. An improved demand set up for the former and practically the whole offering sold at the hammer. Little business was transacted in the cattle section. Lambs, 7s 3d; well-grown two-tooth wethers, 11s 4d to 13s 2d; ordinary ditto, 9s to 10s 6d; mixed age wethers, 11s 6d to 14s; fresh full-mouth ewes, 8s to Ils Id; aged ditto, 4s 6d to 6s 7d; Hereford empty heifers, £2 10s; steers, 35s to £2 Bs. At Kaponga, on the 10th instant, we submitted a full yarding to good enquiry, a full clearance resulting. Beef and boner values were quite up to and in several instances in excess of freezing rates. Young cattle sold well. Lambs, 7s to 7s 2d; weaner heifers, 28s to £2 4s; inferior ditto, 10s; four-year bullocks, £5 ss; 18-month steers, 22s 6d; store cows, 16s to 30s; fat cows, £3 to £4 3s; bulls, £1 17s 6d to £3. At Douglas, on March 13, both sheep and cattle were well represented, and the whole •yarding sold. Weaner heifers and 18-month steers were the only classes to show any material rise in values. Two, four and six-tooth wethers, 12s to 1,3 s 7d; lambs, 6s lOd to 9s 4d; small, 4s 6d; four and six-tooth ewes, 15s 6d; fresh full-mouth ewes, 7s 3d to 9s; Southdown rams, 3i guineas; weaner heifers, 17s 6d to 365; Jersey weaner heifers, £3 to £3 3s; 18month steers, 235; conditioned ditto, 42s to 455; three-year bullocks, £3; store cows, 15s to 275; light fat ditto, £2 14s. At Stony River, on 15th instant, a fair offering was cleared at present ruling rates. Store pigs, 16s to 20s; lambs, 6s to 7s; mixed two-tooths, 20s to 275; fat cows, £3 13s 6d to ,£4 10s; light ditto, £2 10s to £2 17s 6d; store ditto, 13s 6d to 32s 6d. At Waiwakaiho, on March 16, the advertised entry of weaners came forward in addition to a full yarding of other stock. Jersey and Jersey cross heifers made up the bulk of the weaner offering, of which there was a big portion sold. Dairy heifers and cows .close to and at profit were also eagerly competed for. Other classes remained at late levels. Lambs, 7s 9d to 8s 9d; purebred Southdown ditto, 21a; four and six-tooth ewes, 13s; purebred Southdown ditto, 31s; weaner heifers, 16s to 40s; Jersey ditto, £3 Is to £3 6s; quality ditto, £4 to £4 7s 6d; in calf heifers, £2 to £3 3s; empty heifers, £2 Is to £2 10s; springing ditto, £7 to £8; dairy cows, £6 10s to £lO 15s; two-year steers, 38s to £2 4s; store cows, 15s to 30s; fat cows, £3 to £4 ss.
