N.P. HIGH SCHOOLS.
MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools’ Board of Governors was held last night, there being present: Messrs. J. S. Fox' (chairman), S. G. Smith, M.P., L. A. Nolan, F. W. Atkinson, A E. Washer, and H. Trimble. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. E. F. Fookes and Messrs. E. P. Webster, L. C. Sladden and A. Morton. BOYS’ SCHOOL. Regarding class-room accommodation, the principal of the boys’ school (Mr.' W. H. Moyes) furnished a report in which he stressed the fact that ten fullsized dlass-rooms are required, and even then two classes will contain 39 and 38 boys respectively. He further stated that under the regulations introduc,ed by the Education Act the school is entitled to eleven assistant masters, while with a roll increase of three, twelve would be the number entitled l to. GIRLS’ SCHOOL. The principal of the girls’ school (Miss E. M. Mclntosh) reported that the roll number for the mouth was 159 in the secondary department, and 42 in the preparatory. GENERAL. The chairman’s action in placing an order for science requirements at the boys’ school was approved. A formal application will be made to .the department for a grant for various requirements at the boys’ school, its outlined to the Minister of Education by a deputation from the board last week. In this connection the chairman, who was unable to be present on that occasion, thanked those members who had formed the deputation and placed the various matters before the Minister.
