NGAMOTU COTTAGES.

THE HEALTH CONDITIONS. DR. MONK’S COMMENTS. The conditions at Ngamotu beach . cottages are referred to in a report i from the district health officer (Dr. ' Monk, Wanganui) which was read at last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council. Under date March 16 Dr. Monk wrote: — “Whilst in New Plymouth last week I took the opportunity of inspecting the row of cottages at Ngamotu. As far as the buildings are concerned they are what they were intended for, summer or beach cottages, and were never intended for permanent habitations. Had they been intended as permanent residences the borough building by-laws would have had to be conformed to. Gas and water have been laid on, and I am informed that a nightsoil collection and a weekly rubbish collection have recently been established. The outside surroundings of the cottages require immediate attention, and I would suggest that the borough inspector give the owners notice to have all yards thoroughly cleaned up, including the re- , movil of all long grase. A very xaried collection of old sacks, bags, tins and boxes will be found, and would be better removed. In she conveniences properly made pans should be used, whilst the rubbish tin must be made to contain not more than two cubic feet of rubbish and furnished with a properly fitting cover. Please have these matters attended to.”' The letter bore an endorsement from the borough inspector as follows: “Place had a thorough clean up on March 11. All cottages were recently supplied with tins and lids.” The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) remarked that the question was to be the subject of a conference between the council and the Harbor Board to be held shortly.
