With the object of enabling moral instruction to be given in schools, the Canterbury Education resolved that, except as provided, the ordinary hours of instruction in every district or aided school in the Canterbury Education District shall, in the case of all standard classes, be five hours each day during the five days of each week, but for preparatory classes net-d not exceed four hours, and teaching shall be entirely of a secular character, provided that, In schools in which the committee may desire to make provision for special instruction to supplement the course of moral instruction prescribed in clause 48 of the regulations for the inspection and examination of schools, the ordinary hours of instruction shall be not less than 4$ hours each day on five days of each week, during which time the teaching shall be entirely of a secular character.
