For a considerable time the Stratford Chamber of Commerce has been in communication with the railway authorities regarding the afternoon train service to and from Stratford. It is stated that the Chamber is now hopeful of having the 3 p.m. train northward reinstated to suit the requirements of children attending the Stratford schools. In furtherance of this object the following letter has been despatched to the General Manager of Railways by Mr. J. B. Richards, president of the Chamber of Commerce:—
“My Chamber - initiated action in protest against, the above on December 8 last. We have been in communication with the distict traffic manager since January 23. Last Tuesday, 14th inst., the district traffic manager visited Stratford anl conferred with representatives of my Chamber, "the State schools committee and of the Convent School. He indicated that he appreciated the force of the representations, and that the necessity of a train departing from Stratford for the north about 3 p.m. is amply apparent. We trust you will be able to reinstate the train desired. The Press reports that you have stated in correspondence to Mr. R. Masters, M.P., that ‘the present timetable was adopted after consultation with business people of Stratford.' My Chamber had no knowledge of any proposed alterations of the afternoon service on the main line until same were advertised, nor can we hear of any resident of this town who had.” COUNTY COUNCIL LOANS. £15,000 IN VIEW. The Stratford County Council has practically secured a special loan of £15,000 from the Public Trust office, this being the second instalment of'-the £90,000 loan raised some time ago. At Saturday’s meeting of the council the chairman (Mr. E. Walter) said the council’s most grateful thanks were due to Mr. R. Masters. M.P.. for the time and labor he had given to securing the loan for the council. Mr. Masters was, the chairman said, as energetic a member as it was possible to have. He proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Masters, and this was earned unanimously. GENERAL. Mr. J. D. Visitors to the Stratford Carnival are promised an entertainment full of interest, amusement and excitement. The athletic events have been well filled, and received the support of most of the competitors within a large radius of Stratford. Trotting nominations closed with excellent fields, and fully come up to the expectations of the committee. The motor ear race, which is creating great interest, is one which will long live in the minds of those fortunate enough to witness it. The original intention to have this event confined to the well-known grass track experts, Messrs. Rack and Seed, has been altered in view of a challenge received from the continental champion, ?f. Henri Aplvn. The visit to the town of Vinpeppo’s Antipodean Travelling Circus and Zoo is most fortunately timed, the committee having arranged with Mr. Vinpeppo to give his wide famed performance on the grounds.
