Carpentier, on being invited to discuss the Beckett-Cook match, writes that Cook fe not a great boxer. He has much to learn, but he is like iron and has immense courage. You have to hit him as if you would kill him before he goes down and be counted out. Beckett will find Cook no punishing boxer, but one with a heart that is hard to break. “I do not think,” adds Carpentier, “that mere fistic skill will decide the [issue. It will be a'battle of temperaments. Beckett, when he enters the ling gives himself up to that kind of self analysis which breeds doubt in oneself. If Beckett is not concerned with what the people are saying and thinking about him. he should beat the Australian, but if Beckett grows tired of hitting Cook, and begins to wonder why the Australian does not go down, he will lose.”—Aus.-N.Z.
