The Federal authorities are investigating an alleged plot to cheat the Government of millions of dollars in duties on imported wool from South America. It is learned that the wool was imported as low grade material for the manufacture of carpets, which is non-dutiable, but examination proved that the wool was of the highest quality dutiable at 30 cents per lb. One shipment escaped a duty of 450.000 dollars.
