NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITORS. \ MATCHES ON SATURDAY* The “A” grade competitions in North Taranaki on Saturday saw two of the leading teams suffer defeat, these being Western Park, who lost to Urenui, and Waitara, who were beaten by the High School team. The uncompleted match between New Plymouth and Old Boys was brought to a conclusion, the lead which the former had gained proving too big a hurdle for Old Boys. Two of the “B ’ grade matches were not played, High School 111 and Old Boys forfeiting engagements with Urenui and New Plymouth respectively. Western Park were defeated by High School II and Harbor Board won from Waitara. “A” GRADE. NEW PLYMOUTH v. OLD BOYS. The New Plymouth and Old Boys teams met on the racecourse to decide an unfinished match commenced in the first round. The position as it stood was that New’ Plymouth had made 267 and Old Boys had just opened their innings when stumps were drawn. On Saturday Old Boys carried on the innings, making 72 for eight wickets, two batsmen being absent. Greiner 20 and Bewley 18 were the best scorers. Nicoll (New Plymouth) had a successful career with the ball, taking seven wickets for 20 runs. Old Boys followed on again, and had four wickets down for 98 when stumps were drawn. Urenui defeated Western Park by 60 runs, in a match at Western Park. The Park team scored 58, Robertson (27) being the only batsman to make a stand against the Urenui bowling. Blundell took five wickets for 20 runs, and C. Foreman five for 25. Urenui’s innings realised 118 runs, a good contribution being made by C. Wilson, who played a consistent game for 51 not out. Other scorers included H. Foreman 14, K. Lye 14, and C. Foreman 13. HIGH SCHOOL v. WAITARA. At Waitara the New Plymouth High School first eleven defeated the Waitara team by a considerable margin. The school team made 175, and Waitara were dismissed for 55, Mahraj being the most successful of the school bowlers.

“B” GRADE. WAITARA v. HARBOR BOARD. On the New Plymouth racecourse Harbor Board defeated Waitara by 37 runs. Harbor Board compiled 66, of which Fitzpatrick contributed 30. His total included only three singles. G. Carey 12 and Cameron 12 were the only other batsmen who reached double figures. Young was the most successful bowler for Waitara. NEW PLYMOUTH v. OLD BOYS. The fixture New Plymouth v. Old Boys was won by New Plymouth by default. HIGH SCHOOL 111 v. URENUI. High School HI forfeited their match with Urenui, being unable to send a team. HIGH SCHOOL II v. WESTERN PARK. High School II team met Western Park on the school ground, and won by 23 runs. Batting first, School made 90 runs (Clarke 21, Foden 13, Lash 13, Ballantyne 12, Stevenson 11 not out). Western Park replied with 67 (Berg 14, Beard 13, H. Hoffman 12, Bullot 11). Bowling for Western Park, Hoskin took four wickets for 12 runs, Bullot two for 15, Harrison one for 9, Lowe one for 17, E. Hoffman one for 21. Schoolo bowling was done by Strombom three for 8, Griffin four for 34, and Foden two for 12. MATCH AT NGAERE. At Ngaere on Saturday the West. End School teani, which has proved prominem m the primary schools competitions, defeated a team organised by Mr. A. Coad, and comprising members of the committee and other adults. The adults scored 24 (Moverley 8, Medley 5, J. Lobb 3, Lobb 2, Ewart, H. Lobb, Mclndoe, Hancock one each, Broome, Coad and Cock each a i “duck”. School replied with 58, Prior (retired 18) and Thomas (retired 15) being the highest scorers.
