BREAKING AND ENTERING.

TN SOUTH TARANAKi. I THREE MEN CHARGED John Alexander Gemmell was charged at Hawera 'on Wednesday before Messrs. R. W. J. McNeill and J. Osborne, J.P.’s, as follow’s: That on January 26, 1922, at Te Roti, he did break and enter by day the dwelling-house of Francis Stanley Bluett; that on the same date and at the same place he broke and entered the house of Arthur Stanley Bluett and stole articles of a total value of £3 10s; that on the same date at Te Roti he broke and entered the house of Chas. Sharp and stole a suit of clothes and boots of a total value of £lO 15s.

The same defendant and Leonard Thomas Terrill were charged with having at Matapu, on February 21, broken and entered the house of John Arthur Douglas and stealing the sum of £l3 18h and a felt hat valued at 255. The same two accused were charged with having on February 17 stolen from tho dwelling-house of Arthur Hamblyn, at Bell Block, a suit of clothes valued at £5 and money, making a total value of £8 Is.

Leonard Thomas Terrill, John Alexander Gemmell, and Archbold Robert John McKay Were charged with having stolen on March 20, at Norma nby, from the dwelling-house of Arthur Powell, goods to the value of £3. John Alex Gemmell was charged with having on January 21, at Hawera, broken and entered by day the dwellinghouse of William Taylor, and with having /stolen £5 10s. Gemmell, Terrill and McKay were also charged with having, about March 1,- stolen at Normanby, one shirt, cakes, and tins of a total value of 21s 6d, the property of Andrew Lewis Peters*

Accused pleaded guilty. The three accused were remanded to appear at Wanganui on Friday on the charge of breaking and entering at Wanganui East. On the charge of theft from Peters’ dwelling at Normanby accused were sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor, and on the other charges accused were ordered to appear before the. Supreme Court at its next sitting at Wellington.—Star.
