MR. MONTAGU’S RESIGNATION. SYMPATHY IN INDIA. By Telegraph.— Assn.—Copyright. Delhi, March 16. Many meetings of Indians adopted resolutions of sympathy with and confidence in Mr. Montagu, who is highly popular with them. Gandhi, interviewed, said he did not think the resignation would make much difference to the situation, but he thought Mr. Montagu deserved credit for his efforts. QUESTION OF SUCCESSOR. TWO REFUSALS MADE. Received March 17, 7.30 p.m. London, March 17. The Duke of Devonshire and Lord Derby have refused the offer of appointment as Secretary of State for India. The post is now being offered to Lord Crawford.
