PUSSYFOOT" JOHNSON COi JNG. TWO ISSUES WANTED. . By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The executive of the New Zealand Alliance announces the acceptance by Mr. W. E. (Pussyfoot) Johnson of an invitation to help in the coming licensing poll campaign in the Dominion. The executive also resolved to urge the Parliamentary Committee on the licensing laws now sitting to secure -a two issue ballot paper, so that voters might choose between continuance and national prohibition; also that a new electoral roll be prepared, in view of the fact that the roll at the last election contained over eight thousand more names than there were adults in the Dominion. It was also resolved to inform the committee that the alliance is opposed to any extension of the three-year interval between polls or a redistribution <)f licenses. PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE. FURTHER EVIDENCE HEARD. Wellington, Last Night. The hearing df evidence on behalf of the National Council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand was continued to-day by the reeess Parliamentary Committee, with Mr. F. F. Hockley, M.P., as chairman. The committee was set up to inquire as to what amendments in the Licensing Act will be necessary should national no-license fail to be carried in December next. Evidence was given by representatives of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association of New Zealand and associated chartered clubs, while the Rev. John Dawson, secretary, gave evidence on behalf of the New Zealand Alliance. Counsel appeared for the different interests concerned. The sittings of the committee will be continued to-morrow. Unless a good many more persons notify the chairman of their desire to give evidenc o , it is ■expected that the hearing of witnesses will be concluded about the middle of next week.
