POPPY DAY.

TARANAKI ARRANGEMENTS AN EMBLEM OF FRANCE. ' An outline of the Poppy Day scheme as proposed for Taranaki has been received by the New Plymouth Returned Soldiers’ Association in the shape of a circular letter from the Wellington district body. Poppies to the number of 13,500 have been allotted to Taranaki, the number being made up as follows:—New Plymouth 4275, Waitara 675, Hawera 1690, Stratford 1350, other small towns (as per list) 4665, reserve 845. The smaller centres will be worked from the following headquarters: Waitara: Mokau 75, Tikorangi 145. Taumarunui: Ongarue 150, Ohura 90, Matiere 150. New Plymouth: Tarata 105, Oakura 90, Inglewoood 570. Hawera: Rahotu 180, Opunake 240, Manutahi 95, Normanby 375, Manaia 285, Parihaka 115. Stratford: Eltham 815, Kaponga 315, Midhirst 290, Huiroa 85. Patea: Waverley 495. Poppy Day is April 24. The district secretary, in forwarding the particulars, states that the allocation is only an approximate one, but will serve as a guide ’to the Poppy Day Committee. Prices are one shilling for small poppies, and 2/- each for large poppies, with a charge for school wreaths of from £1 4s to £1 6s. The refund to France will be £3892 19s 2d if all the poppies are sold. The disposal of the nett proceeds was decided on by the last meeting of the Dominion executive as follows: (a) Nett proceeds of each district will be utilised for the relief of unemployed soldiers in that district. (b) Relief would be granted in the following order of urgency: (1) married men with a family and not in receipt of a pension; (2) married men with a family and in receipt of f a small pension; (3) married men and f single men with dependents; (4) single men without dependents. The railway and postal departments hav* kindly agreed to carry ail poppies free.
