LAWN TENNIS.
SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS POSTPONED. Owing to the wet weather the continuation of the schools’ tennis championships have been postponed until to-day week, Saturday, March 25.
During a Napier Court case concerning the Douglas Estate, says an exchange, the presiding judge said that he did not doubt the honor and probity of the trustees, but how was he to know ■whether the losses shown on the bal-ance-sheets were justified? For instance, how was he to tell whether the horse-racing and breeding business had been well conducted? Mr. Humphries (one of the counsel): Well, they have been run so well that last year there was a profit of over £3OOO. His Honor: But there was a loss one year.—They made it up next year, sir. Mr. Lusk (another lawyer): They got more knowing as time went on. His Honor asked whether the racing profits included dividends. He understood that some owners considered it necessary to do some judicious backing in connection with their horses. Mr. Humphries said the profits did not include dividends. He knew personally that at least two of the trustees did not bet. The steeplechase horse Peneton, which has been off the scene for some 'time, has been doing steady work on a farm in the Waikato district and has now gone into the charge of H. Eva to have his preparation finished off for forthcoming events. Eva has had some success with Golden Bubble recently, and is 'getting a good string together in the North
