BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) March 15. At the monthly meeting of the Borough Council on Tuesday there were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. R. Sutherland), and Crs. D. T. Egarr, W. H. Eagar, R. J. Frewin, A. B. Gamlin, and F. Spurdie. Cr. R. Fawcett was absent owing to illness. It was decided unanimously to support the protest suggested by the Otago Hospital Board against the proposed increase in the charges for auditing the council’s accounts, whereby 9s per hour was to take the place of the former 6s Bd. It was resolved, without dissent, to support the Napier Borough Council’s request that the Government take action in the matter of the charging of interest by the banks on the various accounts of local bodies which are overdrawn, while other accounts of the same bodies are at the same time in credit. It was decided to accede to the request made in a memorandum received from ratepayers in Miro Street that a footpath be formed in that street. Reports from the works and electric light committees were adopted. °The annual subsidy of £75 to the volunteer fire brigade was passed for pavment. The Mayor reported regarding arrangements made for residents to provide receptacles for rubbish to facilitate the work of the municipal staff in keeping the town clean and healthy. DOMAIN BOARD. The Inglewood Domain Board met on Tuesday. Present: Messrs. J. R. Sutherland‘(chairman). D. T. Egarr, W. H. Eagar, R. J. Frewin, A. B. Gamlin, and F. Spurdie. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. R. Fawcett, who is still on the sick list. The reserves committee reported that all weeds on the board’s reserves had been ent and recommendations carried out. The painting of the new gate on the north of the sports ground, and laying of gravel at that entrance were autli»oxieed.
