SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
RACE FIXED FOR APRIL 18. Whangarei, March 10. Hadfield is out over certain portions of the course daily and he is putting in some solid work. Paddon has been up against the change in climate, which has affected his health somewhat. He is gradually shaking off his disabilities, however, and he had a good row on Tuesday. Now that the race for the sculling championship of the world has been fixed for Easter Tuesday, April 18, both competitors will settle down to training seriously, although neither of the competitors has much weight to take off. The fact that Paddon defeated Barry on the Thames and Arnst in Australia is bringing him plenty of support. Quite a number of those who have seen him in action, and who have observed the fast way his boat travels in between his strokes, hold the view that Hadfield will not have the cakewalk he had when he won the title from Dick Arnst. The race is timed for 3.15 p.m. on April 18 and it will take place at about dead water.
