DOCKERS’ BEER BOYCOTT.

CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS. London, Feb. 15. There are severe discrepancies in the reports as to the effectiveness of the beer boycott in the dockyards areas. Pickets * emphasise the comparative emptiness of the dockside bars, and call attention to the dockers passing hotels “carrying their heads high.” Scoffers allege that the strikers are merely going outside the picketed area, where the bars are doing extra business. Inquiries at the busiest bars, however, reveal a sudden drop in the proportion of dockers among, the drinkers. Others assert that numerous sympathisers frequently toasted the boycott last night. They were comparatively abstemious to-day, but are liable to repeat the toasts to-night. The dockers are in a bad temper. A large section takes the boycott seriously. Sceptics call attention to the fact that hotels are taking in unusual consignments of barrels in anticipation of the termination of the boycott.
