UPPER HOUSE DEAD.

ABOLITION IN QUEENSLAND. ROYAL ASSENT GIVEN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received March 12, 5.5 p.m. Brisbane, March 11. The Premier has announced that the Governor has received a cable that the Royal assent has been given to the Queensland Legislative Council Abolition Bill and the necessary Order-in-Council jfcstged. The Upper House is therefore dead. The Premier added that for many years it thwarted the will of the people and had become a drag upon democracy. Few would mourn its fate and fewer still would hope for its resurrection. This was the first time such action had been taken by any sovereign State so far as he knew. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
