THE CLIFTON CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Clifton Club was held on Thursday evening. Mr. D. George (president) presided over a fair number of members. The following balance-sheets were read and adopted: The general account showed a credit balance of £2l 13s sports account, £7B 4s 7d; memorial gates account, credit balance £lO 9s 8d; insurance account, £2O 3s lOd. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P.; president, Mr, Les Birdling; vice-president, Mr. H. Wells; club captain, Mr. H. L. Abbott; sole selector of the seniors, Mr. H. L. Abbott; first junior sole selector, Mr. J. Betts; second junior sole selector, Mr. Edgar Tate; committee, Messrs. R. Tate, F. Ross, G. N. Skelton, J. Cain, H. L. Abbott, with the captains of the senior and first junior teams, also selectors of the second and third teams; auditor, Mr. L. Sampson; senior delegate, Mr. F. Ross; junior delegate, Mr. G. N. Skelton; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Southwell. It was resolved that the secretary should receive 10 guineas a year as an honorarium for his services. Saturday was fixed as the playing day. A representative from the Urenui district reported that Urenui wished to have first and second junior teams attached to the Clifton Club. After discussion it wis decided that the club allow Urenui to form a club of their own, and to be attached to the Clifton Club, and that details be left in the hands of the management committee. Waitara will enter four teams and Urenui two teams. As there was no representative from Lepperton it was decided that they be written to as to whether they are entering teams. It was resolved that two delegates from Urenui be allowed to attend the committee meetings of the Clifton Club. Subscriptions were fixed at 2s 6d for playing members and 7s 6d for honorary members.
The opening day was left in the hands of the management committee. Mr. Skelton thought that the age limit for fourth players should be eliminated, and that a recommendation from the meeting be forwarded to the Rugby Union to that effect.—Agreed to. Mr. D. George referred to the scheme inaugurated by Mr. McLeod, and said it. was one of the finest schemes that was ever brought forward, especially .as it concerned the Clifton Club. The gates had been 100 per cent, better. Under the new scheme the union was able to spend a large sum of money on the park grounds in New Plymouth, and it meant in time that the clubs would own their own grounds.
