AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL. OVERTURES TO NEW ZEALAND Referring to tl>e accumulation of Austrahan and New Zealand meat in Lon- ?° n ; < X e Sydney Daily Telegraph state, that the 1 rime Minister for Australia is in communication with tho New Zealand Government, with a view to joint action. ■* Mr. Hughes discussed tho position when he had hia attention drawn to a statement made by Mr. J. A. M. Elder, in London, that the Commonwealth Government had offered to pay a bonua of one farthing a pound on all meat exported to Great Britain, provided the Imperial Government did likewise. The Prime Minister said that proposal was made by a deputation representing the meat industry some months ago, and it was cabled to London, but the British Government would not agree to Consequently the suggestion fell Mr. Hughes then explained hi? communication with the New Zealand authorities, from whom no reply had yet been received.
