PRICES FOR WOOL.

THE WELLINGTON SALES. PREVIOUS RATES MAINTAINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Depressing as the cables recording the opening of the London March sales might be construed a drop in prices for both fine and crossbred wools was not perceptible in the offering made in Wellington to-day. Prices were roughly on a par with those obtained at the sale held here but three weeks ago and if there was any variation it was in favor of the seller'. The total catalogue was 19,098 bales. It included a large proportion of medium to coarse crossbreds and very few of the finer lines of crossbreds. There was a little Southdown, merino and Southdown cross in the catalogue, but also a lot of seedy and low-conditioned wool, some of which had been held in store for nine or ten months. Prices were a long way below the growers’ ideas of a market, but they were firm nevertheless. Old pre-war 8d and 83d, wools, 40’s to 44’s, went at round about 43d to 6d.

There was not much wool suitable for America, but plenty to satisfy Bradford and Continental requirements. The official range of prices was: Merino, super 163 d to 18d. average Is|d to 163 d, inferior 13d to 14d: medium half-bred super 123 d to 133 d, average 9d to HJd, interior 7d to 83d; coarser half-bred, average SJd to IOJd, inferior 7d to SJd; fine crossbreds, average 7d to BJd, in-, ferior 4£d to 6d; medium crossbred., super Sd to 83d, average s|d to 73d, inferior 4fd to sfd; coarse-bred, super 6d to 73d, average 53d to 63d, inferior 4d to 53; low crossbred, super 5d to 63d, average 43d to 5Jd, inferior 4d to 43d; hoggets, medium 6d to 83d, coarse 4d to 53d; lambs, down lOd to 103 d, fine 8d to 10 id, medium 63d to B£d; seedy and inferior 2d to sd; bellies and pieces, merino good to super 8d to lOd, low to medium 6d to 7d; half-bred, good to super 6d to 7d, low to medium 4d to 53d; crossbred, good to super 33d to sd, low to medium 13d to 3d, crutchings, medium to good 3d to 43d.
