AN IMPETUOUS LOVER.
FINED FOR. KISSING GIRL. WANGANUI COURT CASE. An amusing case was heard before Mr. T. A. B. Bailey. S.M., in the Wanganui Court, when a young man was charged with assaulting a young woman by kissing her against her will. The prosecution stated that one Saturday afternoon the young man and the blushing maiden met at the end of a lane at Putiki. So much in love was the. young man that he could, not resist the temptation of kissing her fervently, much against her will. He actually held her in his embrace 'Tor some time. Counsel for the defendant jocularly remarked that some girls rather liked being kissed with no suggestion of any penalty. He said there were two classes of cases in which the defendant did not like to appear in Court, namely when “spoony” letters were read out in divorce proceedings, and where kissing was concerned. The young man in the present case intended to plead guilty, as he had no desire to embarrass the young girl by asking her to appear in Court. He was extremely fond of the girl and hoped to prevail upon her ultimately to become his wife. The Magistrate: But he must not be too hasty. The defendant was then fined £l, without costs.
