FARMERS’ CO-OP. REPORT. i The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Ltd., report for the week ending March 4, as follows: At Opunake on Monday we had a good yarding of cattle and lambs. Bidding was brisk and a satisfactory sale resulted, practically the whole of the entry changing hands. Stor.e pigs made from 26s to 325, weaners 5s to 9s, best lambs 13s 3d, others 5s to 6s 7d, dairy cows to £7, heifers near profit £4 to £4 15s, bulls £2 to £3 10s, four-year steers forward £4 14s to £5 3s, fat cows £3 15s to £4 12s Gd, forward ditto £2 to £2 15s, others to 355, 20-unonth steers 38s, in-calf heifers to £4, mixed weaners £2 to 30s. At, Manaia on Tuesday we held our annual weaner fair in conjunction with our usual fortnightly sale. There was. a splendid entry, all our pens being filled. The demand for weaners was good, all classes of heifers meeting with a ready sale. Cull and fat cows also met with a good sale. Quotations: Best Jersey weaners to £4 19s, good ditto £4 Is to £4 6s, medium to good £3 to £3 10s, mixed to £2 10s, Holsteins to £3, dairy cows £6 to £7, in-calf heifers to £4 17s 6d, fat cows £5 5s to £4 10s, good cows to £3 15s, others 25s to £2 10s, cows with cattle at foot to £2 14s, bulls £2 to £2 15s, lambs 8s to 13s, ewes 3s, suckers 10s to 12s 6d. At Inglewood on Wednesday sheep and cattle came forward in good numbers. Bidding was inclined to drag and a fair percentage of the sheep entry was passed in. In the cattle section, however, although prices were low the majority of the entry was sold. Rams made gns. ewes 9s 9d, hoggets 10s 6d, mixed ewes and wethers Ils 9d, store cows young to £2 10s, fat cows to £4 ss, others to £2, Jersey heifers (weaners) to £3 4s, smaller to £2 2s, bulls £2 to £2 15s. At Auroa on Friday there was a good entry of cattle, some very good cows coming forward. Prices were on about a par with late rates, bulks £2, £3 17s 6d to £4. 2s 6d, best cows to £3 17s 6d, others 35s to 50s, Jersey cross weaners to £2 16s, Jersey weaners £4, hoggets 10? fld, lambs 8s 6d to 8s 7d. WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company (Hamilton) report the following Bullocks, heavy prime £7 to £B, medium £6 to £6 10s; cows, heavy £4 to £5 ss, medium £3 to £3 10s, forward £1 15s to £2 10s; steers 3%-year best £4 12s Gd to £5 53, 2%-year best £2 10s to £3 ss; betters, 2-year r.w.b. £4 to £5 15s; cows, stores £1 to £1 10s; steers, 18-months best £1 10s to £2, do medium £1 2s Gd to £1 7s 6d; heifers, 18-months best £2 5s to £2 15s, do medium £1 5s to £2; calves, heifers £1 to £2, steers 15s to £1 2s 6d; wethers, prime heavy 18s to 20s, medium 15s 6d to 17s 6d; ewes, prime Ils to 14s; wethers, 4-tooth store 14s to 15s, 2-tooth 12s to 13s 6d; breeding ewes, 2-tooth 14s to 16s, do 4 and 6-tooth 15s to 17s, do 4 and 5-year 12s to 14s, do f.m. 7s 6d to 10s; rape lambs, woolly and shorn 10s to Ils 6d; store Isimbs 7s to 10s, do small 3s 6d to 6s; pigs, baconers £3 3s to £4 2s 6d, porkers 35s to £2 17s Gd, good slips £1 Is to £1 10s, weaners 7s 6d to 15s; horses, heavy draughts £3O to £4O. medium do £25 to £3O, light, do £l7 to £2O, tarness horses £8 to £l5, hacks £6 to £lO. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Hawera branch), report as follows: At Hawera on 25th ultimo we held our annual ram fair. Bidding was inclined to drag, but practically the whole entry was disposed of before leaving ' the yards. Lincolns were neglected. Southdowns to B%gns., Border Leicester (one shear) 4gns., others to 3gns. Romney rams to 3%gns. At Kakaxamea on 27th ultimo we offered a big yarding of sheep and a medium one of cattle, before a fair attendance. Bidding was lifeless at the esheep pens, prices did not reach the vendors reserves and tl’ bulk of the entry was passed In. The majority of the cattle sold under the hammer at the following prices: Good conditioned cows £2 Ils to £3 2s, works cows 30s to £2, bulls £1 12s to £4 7s 6d, dairy cows (close to profit) £8 10s, Jersey and Jersey cross weaner heifers £2 to £3, others 20s, 18-month steers 30s, sheep 6-tooth to f.f.ra. 10s 3d, lambs 9s lOd.
At Eitham on Ist instant we had a good yarding of both steep and cattle. At the sheep pens competition was not keen, but the majority of the cattle sold at prices on a par with late values. We quote: Fat cows (heavy) to £5 12s, fat cows (medium) £4 9s to £4 16s, forward cows £2 7s to £2 17s 6d, boners £1 to £1 15s, fat bullocks £6 15s, forward empty heifers £2 12s, 2year steers (good) £3 4s, bulls £2 5s to £3 15s, empty sound cows £2 7s 6d, Jersey cross weaner heifers £2 8s to £2 9s, mixed weaner heifers 365, others 14s to 18s, sheep, 2-tooth wethers Ils 9d, lambs 6s 9d to 7s 6d, pigs, slips 8s to 12s 6d. At Hawera on 2nd instant, owing to the boisterous weather the advertised number did not come forward. However, In spite of this, we had a good yarding, a fair attendance and a satisfactory sale resulted. We quote: Fat cows (heavy) £5 12s,‘ medium ditto £4 to £4 12s, heifers £5, forward cows £2 14s to £3 Ils, others £1 6s to £2 ss, bulls £2 to £4 7s 6d, Jersey weaner heifers (good) £4 10s, Jersey cross weaner heifers £3 3s, springing betters, Jersey (close up) £8 10s, others (backward) £4 to £5. Sheep, f.f.m. ewes 9s Gd, aged ditto 5s 2d, lambs (prime) 19s 3d, others (good) 12s, culls 5s 3d to 5s 9d, forward wethers 14s 6d. Pigs, slips 9s to 12s.
At Waverley on 3rd instant we offered a good yarding of both sheep and cattle. Bidding on sheep was at times very keen, but cattle were dull of sale. We quote: 18-month to 2%-year steers £2 2s to £3 Is, 4-year bullocks (poor condition) £2 12s to £3 Is. Sheep, 4 and 6-tootbi ewes 15s 3d to 15s lOd, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 12s lOd, m.a. ewes 5s Sd, lambs 5s Id.
