The commercial travellers’ conference carried the following remit: “That whereas the tenure provided under the present Licensing Act is a hindrance to the erection of suitable hotels, and prevents t’he provision of the accommodation necessary for the increasing population, this conference is of opinion that in the interests of the travelling public the local option poll be taken at a period of not lees than nine years.” '
