PAY FOR WATERSIDERS.
DISPUTE AT AUCKLAND. NO AGREEMENT REACHED. By Telegraph—Presa Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Conciliation Council met to-day to consider the watersiders’ dispute and the matter wtus taken in committee. The employers ask for wages at 1/7 an hour, with -2/4A overtime, and with a bonue of 3|d; also extra rates up to 5d an hour for handling special cargoes. The union made counter-proposals for 2/5 an hour for ordinary work and up to 3/2 for special, overtime to be paid time and a half for the first two houts and double time thereafter. The rate under the old award is 2/3 with a penny bonus. The employers ask that go-slow or an}' attempt 'to restrict output in any port, ship or wharf or overtime, or the holding of stop-work meetings, -be a breach of the award. The union asks the right to hold a stop-work meeting once a month. The proposals submitted by the union were discussed and an adjournment was made till to-morrow to enable the employers’ assessors to consult the shipowners.
