TARANAKI HINTERLAND.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TOUR. COMMENCES TO-MORROW. The tour of the Taranaki backblocks, organised by the Taranaki < amber of Commerce, will begin to-morrow. The party, consisting of from 15 to 17 members, will leave - New Plymouth at 7 a.m. and arrive at Tahora about 11 a.m., where the settlers will meet them and show them over the district, including the railway works. At 4 p.m. the party will move on to Ohurd, which it is expected will be reached by 6.30. Next morning the visitors will be taken to various parts of the district and shown the northern railway works, coal deposits, etc., and in the afternoon and evening will meet the settlers, who are giving a dinner to the visitors in the evening.
On Friday morning a start will be made for Piopio, via the VVaitewhena valley. Luncheon will be partaken of, und then the party will proceed to Awakino and Mahoenui. The leading settlers will meet the delegation, and, after afternoon tea, au inspection will be made of the lower Awakino valley road deviation works. Mokau will be reached that evening, when the party will be the guests of the settlers, and next morning they will be taken by motor launch up (the river, inspecting the lime and coal deposits and generally seeing the country. A start will be made for home at about V» o’clock, and it is hoped to reach New Plymouth about nine.
The party will include: Messrs. T. C. List (president), Newton King, E. P. Webster, G. Fraser, R. H. George, .1. Mcbeod, D. Hutchen, W. H. Besley, T. 'H. Bates, D. H. Thompson, L. B. Webster, C. E. Baker, and Press representatives.
