A LEPPERTON FIRE.
DWELLING TOTALLY DESTROYED. OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE. The reflection seen from New Plymouth in the south-eastern sky early on Saturday morning was caused by a fire at Lepperton, whereby a sevenroomed house on the Mountain Road, occupied by Mr. Thomas O’Shannessy, and owned by Mr. B. McKee, of New Plymouth, together with its contents, waa totally destroyed about ’2.30 a.m. Everything appeared to be quite safe when Mr. and Mrs. O’Shannessy and their three children retired for the night about 8.30. Shortly after midnight the children gave the alapn of fire and, on proceeding to the kitchen, Mr. O’Shannessy found it was a mass of flames. All that could be done waa to get the children to safety and to collect a few articles of clothing. B p - Rides this practically nothing was saved. The house was an old one, and was soon totally destroyed. The insurance® are: House £4OO in the Mutual Office, and furniture and effects £250 in the North British. Mr. O’Shannessy estimates his loss at quite £l5O in excess of that covered by insurance.
